Syracuse, New York – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today that significant roadway, parking, and wayfinding changes will begin at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) on February 20, 2026, as preparations advance for construction of a new Consolidated Rental Car Facility (ConRAC).
The multi‑year project will modernize critical airport infrastructure, streamline rental car operations, and enhance the overall passenger experience. To support construction activity and maintain safe traffic flow throughout the airport campus, several operational adjustments will be implemented in the coming weeks.
Traffic and Parking Changes
Beginning February 20th, the entrance to the Overflow Parking Lot—located on the north side of the Parking Garage—will close. This will allow time for all vehicles to exit the lot prior to the start of ConRAC construction, which is anticipated to begin in mid‑to‑late March.
Once construction is underway, both the Overflow Parking Lot and Arrivals B will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project (approximately 14 months). As a result:
- All passenger pick‑ups will occur in Arrivals A.
- Due to expected traffic volumes, the SRAA strongly encourages drivers to use the Cell Phone Lot/Passenger Pick‑Up Waiting Area, accessible from Eileen Collins Boulevard just past Mohawk Global, until their party is ready for curbside pickup.
- Arrivals A will be actively monitored, and only active pick‑ups will be permitted.
New Parking Lot to Maintain Capacity
To offset the closure of the Overflow Parking Lot, the SRAA has added a new parking area on Air Cargo Road, which will be served by airport shuttle service. This addition ensures the airport retains needed parking capacity during and after the construction period.
Wayfinding and Signage Enhancements
The SRAA will also begin a comprehensive overhaul of roadway and campus signage. Updated wayfinding will guide travelers through revised traffic patterns and parking adjustments as construction progresses.
Statement from the Executive Director
“Our team is committed to delivering an airport experience that is modern, efficient, and easy to navigate,” said Jason Terreri, Executive Director of the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority. “The construction of the new Consolidated Rental Car Facility is a major step forward in improving how travelers move through our campus and in strengthening the long‑term infrastructure of the airport. We recognize that construction can be disruptive, and we sincerely appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make these important improvements. The end result will be a significantly enhanced airport experience for all who travel through SYR.”
