Syracuse, New York – March 20, 2024 – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) – operator of Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) – has announced they will receive $6 million in congressionally directed spending, evenly divided between two projects. Authorized via Senate and House appropriations bills, the funds will help rehabilitate deicing facilities on the airfield and expand the security checkpoint in the terminal building, advancing the overall airport customer experience.

“We are deeply grateful for our elected officials who listened to our needs and fought for this funding,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “I would like to specifically thank Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressman Brandon Williams for their tireless advocacy not only for the success of our airport, but our region as a whole.”

Demand on the airport’s deicing facilities and security checkpoint has increased dramatically in the past year due to unprecedented traffic levels. The airport has assumed new regional responsibility due to consolidation of airline traffic through SYR from surrounding smaller regional airports. This funding supports the continuous development of the airport, allowing it to keep meeting the growing needs of the community.
