Syracuse, New York –The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) and the New York Air National Guard’s 174th Attack Wing (ATKW) announced today the inaugural running of the 174th Attack Wing Runway 5k – Presented by Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR)! The run will take place on Saturday, September 17th.

Intended to increase community engagement with the 174th ATKW, the planned racecourse will take runners onto the SYR airfield – including the main runway of the airport.

“We’re proud to support the 174th Attack Wing as they launch their first ever runway 5k,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “We appreciate the partnership of the New York Air National Guard and applaud their efforts to organize this fun event for the community.”

“On behalf of Col McCrink, 174th Attack Wing Commander, we look forward to having the community come out for the unique opportunity to run on the runway and also see the MQ-9 aircraft,” said Colonel Chuck Hutson, Vice Commander of the 174th ATKW. “We all live and reside right here in Central New York with most of us experiencing the bulk of our military careers right here in Syracuse; in essence we are a community-based force and this is just one way for us to engage with our community.”

The number of race entrants will be capped at 500. To learn more about the race and to sign up to run, please visit the run signup site.
