Syracuse, New York – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today that Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) has been recognized with an international award for excellence in snow and ice control for the 2018/2019 winter season. This is the second year in a row that the airport has received this honor.
The Balchen/Post award was presented on April 29, 2019 by the Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) to the airport’s snow and ice control team for their dedicated efforts in maintaining the airport in safe and operational status.
First held in April 1967, the International Aviation Snow Symposium serves as a forum for dialogue on the numerous aspects of winter operations at airports. This year’s symposium was held in Buffalo, NY.
“This is truly a testament to not only the hard work of our Airfield Maintenance and Operations teams, but also their dedication to ensuring the safety of the traveling public”, said John Carni, Interim Executive Director. “Here locally, we know the skill our teams display with regards to snow and ice control at SYR airport. However, there’s no better compliment than to have that exceptional level of expertise recognized internationally by your peers.”
Syracuse International Airport was the winner in the Small Commercial (Less than 100,000 operations per year) category.
