The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) today announced that passenger traffic at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) is up 10.7% over the first two months of the prior year. This further builds on the success of 2018 as a whole, during which over 2.3 million passengers passed through SYR. That was an impressive 11.6% increase over 2017.

SYR passenger traffic is expected to soar even higher later this year with the recent announcement of two new nonstop routes. In February, United Airlines announced daily nonstop service to Denver, which will begin in June. Additionally, Allegiant Air will begin nonstop service to Sarasota in April.

The exceptional growth has been fueled by the entrance of Frontier Airlines into the Syracuse market in July 2018, as well as the addition of new routes by Allegiant Air. Between these two airlines, eight new nonstop routes were introduced to the Syracuse market in 2018. This brings the total number of nonstop destinations available to Central New Yorkers flying out of Syracuse up to 24.

Frontier Airlines, which announced its entrance into the Syracuse market in April 2018, launched nonstop service to Denver and Raleigh/Durham in July 2018. The low-cost carrier later added nonstop routes to Orlando, Chicago, Ft. Myers, and Tampa, bringing the number of nonstop destinations from Syracuse served by Frontier up to six.

Allegiant Air launched new nonstop service to Orlando-Sanford in May 2018. It later introduced nonstop service to the “Music City” Nashville, TN, Punta Gorda, FL, and Sarasota FL, bringing Allegiant Air’s nonstop offerings from Syracuse up to seven destinations.
